Beyond Our Walls, Inc
'We pledge to make a difference - one parent, one child, one school and one district at a time"

Our Mission
Beyond Our Walls, Inc. (BOWs) is a nonprofit 501 ( c) (3) community based organization serving parents and their school age children through recruitment and training of parents, neighbors, high school student leaders and community partners serving as school volunteers
Goals for the 2007-2008 School Year
During the 2007-2008 School Year, we will recruit and train new volunteers to add to the teams of certified school volunteers currently registered at the participating schools in District 4/10.  The volunteer teams will be scheduled to serve in three areas:  meet and greet AM & PM, lunch pals and buddies, and Good Neighbors Presentations that will be coordinated by BOWs staff with the School Volunteer Coordinators. During the 2006-2007 School Year, records reflect over 2500 trips to District 4/10 Schools by parents, neighbors and community partners registered and certified by the BOWs program. This year we are "taking it over the top" with a projection of a fifty percent (50%) increase in the total trips registered at all participating schools. We want to further our grassroots connections and support by serving as a support network for parents and their school age children who are experiencing difficulties in academic, behavior and social skills.

We are joining the Charleston County School District efforts to reach the goals of the Charleston Plan for Excellence II and meet the national goal for the No Child Left Behind legislation to have 100% American Students at proficient and advanced by 2014. As members of the neighborhoods surrounding our schools, we are building relationships to make positive influences in the lives of school children. We are committed to helping all teachers experience "Victory in the Classroom". Our commitment and time are building blocks for lifetime relationships with our youth that will help promote needed encouragement for academic success and create strong communities for our future.
You Can Help To Make Our Mission A Reality
We believe every child deserves an educational opportunity powered with encouragement, hope and anticipation of achieving their full potential and becoming a successful adult citizen.  We believe this potential must be nurtured and challenged towards excellence.  Regardless of life's shortcomings, every child should know that they have the support of caring adults from their neighborhood.  School administrators and staff have a very important job to teach and inspire learning.  We, as members of the neighborhoods, must do our part to create positive influences, we must support families of school age children, we must inspire school children to embrace their school experience with a spirit of accomplishment towards a bright future.  We will share our time and resources as volunteers participating in activities at schools near our home and work to help reach these goals.

As stated by Alma Powell, America's Promise Co-Chair

"I believe that every child is a child of promise, and that all of us - working together as concerned citizens, as caring communities - all of us can give young people the tools to accomplish any goal or task they decide upon."
