A Petition to Move Forward A Proposal for New Legislation
to Address the Lowest 5% of Schools In South Carolina
For decades, public education in South Carolina has been failing too many children. The recent Supreme Court decision, Abbeville v. The State of South Carolina showed the nation that a great education is not accessible for all children in the Palmetto State.
There is a solution - and it can happen this year. An Achievement School District (ASD) would take chronically low performing schools and bring them into a statewide school district with the goal of creating significant, measurable and enduring academic growth in 5 years.

Progress for America's Children
"The America we want for our kids—a rising America where honest work is plentiful and communities are strong; where prosperity is widely shared and opportunity for all lets us go as far as our dreams and toil will take us—none of it is easy. But if we work together, if we summon what is best in us, with our feet planted firmly in today, but our eyes cast towards tomorrow—I know it's within our reach."
-- President Barack Obama, January 28, 2014
About Our Organization
After spending years on school campuses in North Charleston, BOWs volunteers started our 10th year opening, BOWs Meeting Place, a learning center in the heart of the neighborhood.
We are excited about serving families during hours schools are closed, holidays, weekends, and summer months. BOWs Meeting Place is the neighborhood meeting place promoting education. Interested parents and their children can plan and participate in educational activities and events sponsored by BOWs Volunteers and community partners. We are also networking resources to help parents learn more about job and career opportunities to improve their lives.
Become a Volunteer
Parents and neighbors work together to help secure the future of children growing up in our communities. BOWs volunteers are citizens who believe a quality education is key in building brighter futures for our children, community, state and nation.
